Are You an Ostrich About Cybersecurity?

You know that cybersecurity is a legitimate concern, but you live under the impression that your business is too small to be a target. You probably think that cyber attacks happen to others but couldn’t possibly happen to you. Right?

Wrong.

Why Current Protections May Not Be Enough

Many business owners think they are adequately protected with basic protections in place. This is almost always false. The worst thing you can do is bury your head in the sand like an ostrich and hope it will all go away. Without a proper cybersecurity plan, your business is sure to be the target of a potentially devastating threat.

The solution? Take your head out of the sand and face the problem straight on. Cyber security is not a question of “if,” but “when.” Threats are constantly looming whether you choose to protect yourself or not. While it might seem like a financial burden to invest in proper security, you’re absolutely going to pay one way or the other; you get to decide if you spend your money on prevention or restoration

What the Numbers and Stats Show

Statistics show that 1 in 5 small businesses will fall victim to a cyber attack and of those, 60% go out of business in six months or less. If you’re the 1 in 5 that gets attacked, the destruction can be costly. Even the smallest attack can drain your resources, your energy, and your time. On average, small companies lose over $100,000 per ransomware incident and any minor breach can cost you upwards of $10,000 to resolve. With these kinds of cybersecurity stats in mind, there’s no reason you shouldn’t do what you can now to protect your data, your team, and your livelihood. In general, businesses that practice proper cybersecurity are seen as reputable, reliable companies that can be trusted and depended upon. By investing in cybersecurity, you’re investing in your business’ good reputation.

It’s a common misconception that you can simply ignore the problem or that your IT provider has got it covered. Don’t be a victim of that mentality. Don’t be an ostrich! There are simple steps you can take to provide multi-layer protection for you and your business. Hackers and cyber threats will continue to loom whether you face the problem or not — so get your head out of the sand and fight back.

Wake up, formulate a plan, and put proper protection in place. Cyber attacks can and will happen — it’s just a matter of time. With the right strategy and protections, you can be ahead of them.
